What was investigated and what was found?
Thirty-six couples undergoing ROSI were compared with 39 undergoing ICSI. Live births were less frequent in the ROSI group.
Interpreting the findings
The groups were small and nonrandomized; the causal effect of hormonal pretreatment cannot be determined.
How can you prepare for a consultation?
Start a discussion of ROSI research with any previous sperm retrieval and embryology reports. Ask which cells were used and whether reported rates refer to initiated cycles, cycles reaching procedural feasibility or embryo transfers. Clinical pregnancy and live birth are separate outcomes, a distinction that matters when interpreting both effectiveness and safety findings.
