Outcomes from Micro-TESE through ICSI to live birth

What was investigated and what was found?

Sperm retrieval, ICSI and live-birth outcomes were examined in 968 patients with NOA.

Interpreting the findings

The live-birth rate among couples who reached ICSI is not the rate among all men who presented for assessment.

How can you prepare for a consultation?

When a publication reports ICSI or live-birth outcomes, ask which stage couples had reached before its rates were calculated. If you have previous treatment records, discuss sperm retrieval, fertilization, embryo transfer and pregnancy separately. Outcomes among couples with retrieved sperm or an embryo transfer differ from outcomes among everyone starting assessment.
